I am creating a Family History data base on Excel and I cannot seem to get the cells to format when the years are past 1900. How do I format the cell to recognize....example 9/16/1898 to read as "16-Sept-1898"

I was asked by a friend: he opened a very big file (no access to the origin one any more) in excel and now he noticed that in some cells the data were not seperated properly like in a cell it is; 10 23 while it should be 10 in one cell and 23 in next cell.

Hi, I'm trying this from another perspective. I have one fuel sheet which has some days that dont have any use. The sheet always has a starting odometer and the user puts an ending odometer on another sheet which links back to petrol sheet.
