How can i hide / unhide error codes in a excel sheet?

I work in the medical field.  I would like to monitor the expiration date of
medical supplies.  I want to compare the expiration date to the current date
then be alarmed, notified, alerted, e-mailed or some method of knowing the
expiration date has arrived.

Column A contains numbers with multiple digits.
