I understand that although backward compatibility is attempted, it is nevertheless considered dangerous practice to use Excel 4 macros in current versions of Excel. Can someone please give me a general idea of the nature of the problems? Or are they too diverse?

I emailed a coworker a spreadsheet and the icon showed as unrecognizeable both in the email and when we moved it to the desktop. When opened in outlook teh "select program to open" dialog came up and when opened from the desktop it opened in excel fine....
