I copied a populated worksheet into a new, blank workbook. I then
selected all cells in the new worksheet and deleted. I also reset the
last used row. No data, no hidden sheets, no macros...no code behind
the book or sheet.

I use dynamic range names quite a bit, and although they appear
correctly in the Names list accessed via Insert/Names/Define [eg.
=Offset(Sheet1!$B$2,0,0, CountA(Sheet1!$B:$B),1)], I can't get them to
