I have a simple spreadsheet which monitors my car's fuel costs, mpg etc. Each row has 4 cells with input data (date, mileometer reading, litres, cost) and 8 calculated cells (eg. mpg, cost/mile, pence/litre,12 month average mpg, etc. etc.).
