I want to use a time value presented in hours and minutes as a number that can be used to multiply to get a value. ie. so many hours and minutes equals a number and using that number times a dollars per hour number to get a gross.

When I type, for example, "4-44" (without the quotation marks) into a cell, Excel automatically transforms the data into a date ("Apr-44"). How do I stop this? Thanks!
