The other day, someone here pointed me to the AVERAGEIF function as a way of
averaging a range of cells, but excluding from the computation any cell in
the range that had a zero value.

In cell A1 I have the either Letter a, b or c.
I would like to give them a numerical value of 1, 2 and 3 in the
adjacent cell.
Can someone post or point me to the formula?

I have large set of data. I have two columns for every variable: first
consists of dates (from 01.01.2000 to 01.01.2008) and the second column
consists of values for every date. The problem is that some dates are missed
(for example I have 01.01.2000 and next row is 05.01.2000). ...

I'm not too strong with Excel so this might be an easy question.
I have a large workbook with about 50K rows and about 100 columns. I need to
sort this large range of data by different columns from time to time. I know
how to sort it by just holding down the left mouse button and ...

I'm trying to find any way to adjust the row when I paste the formula
in the next column or visa versa.
I would be willing to use indirect references, but transposing my data
would not work well as the data displays much better in the formats
