HAVE WINDOWS 98 SE AND TRYING TO INSTALL OLD  OFFICE 97 PROF. EDITION VERSION 8.0 FOR WINDOWS 95.  WILL IT WORK AND/OR DO I NEED OTHER UPGRADES ETC.

each time i try to start excel it goes into reconfiguring

uninstalling and installing, changing the configuration
and detect and repair but it just does the same thing over

When I sum "auto sum" it shows up as "=sum(A1:D4)" in the cell, rather than display the calculated value. I opened up the format and it shows up as "text", so I change it to "number", but is still displays the formula. I, then deleted the contents of the cell and used "auto sum" ...

I can open a spreadsheet when I open Excel first then select open, but if I try to click on the link, it does nothing.  I click on it, so it highlights then I'll either double click the link or hit enter and nothing, it then isn't highlighted anymore.  No error message at all.  ...

My file continues to say it's calculate even though I've
manually pressed F9 several times.  I have doublechecked
it's on automatic calculation so that's not the problem.
I think there might be a formula that it's hungup on -

When I open my Exel files , a note apears on the bottom
bar stating "virus scan requested" and it takes a lonf
time, almost a minute, to open the file. I have Norton
AntiVirus. but it happens eaven when I disable it.

My father has somehow ended up with a standalone version
of Excel 97 on his XP PC.  I'd very much like to
uninstall it.  Every time I go to add/remove programs and
try and get rid of excel, it asks for the install disks.

New computer. While porting files from old computer to new
via floppy disks, the drive (I think it was the floppy
