Today I was using a merge file set up in excel and merging to a Word
document.
In the finished Word document all the dates of birth had been altered from
the dd/mm/yyyy format which we use here in New Zealand, to mm/dd/yyyy.

I have a spreadsheet with a column that has been formatted as text.

My Excel has freaked out.
All my excel files open up into some strange default view setting where only
the  tool bar across the top is displayed.   The actual sheet window is
