Is there any way to split cells in Excel? I know how to do it in Microsoft Word, but all I can get Excel to do is insert new rows or columns for the entire worksheet, rather than a portion of it.

After cell information had been entered, I used to have a space at the top (typing bar) where I could go and make changes. One day it disappeared - perhaps someone else using my computer did it. BUT I REALLY NEED IT. Please tell me how to get it back. Thanks.
