When I start excel 03 the screen goes black momentarily then changes the screen color. My wallpaper and other program windows show in strange color combinations. When I close excel the screen goes black again and the screen reverts to its original settings

Every time I have an Excel file open and I try to open another file, the new file shows up and covers the view of the one I already have open. Put differently, the new file does not come up in a different tab. I need to be able to tab between the two files as I work on them.
