i want to type in those charachters but instead of the symol appearing in the cell, it highlights the menu options at the top (file, edit, fav, etc). it works if i type in the bar, or i type in the cell-delete- and then type percent or fwd slash. Microsoft excel 2003

I am trying to change the colour and display of a cell dependant on if a date is within a range. If the range is 24/12/2007:30/12/2007 in A1 and the date displayed is 26/12/2007 in B1, how do i get it to state in C1 that the date was within the range, green or not red.

When I enter the formulae =CONCATENATE(A2,B2) or =A2&B2 rather than joining the two texts, the formula as such is visible. This happens even when I enter the formula via "Insert Function" where the result of the combined text is visible!
