When I save an Excel file to a folder, a second 1KB file is created with the same name and a prefix of ~$ in front of the original file name. The second file will not open. This never happened before. Does anyone know what it is? and why it is there? Is it harmful? or some ...

I have a conditional format in C2. I have a bunch of columns that I want this same format to apply to, but whenever I do the condional format formula never changes. It will change If I copy down the same column, but not if I copy to different columns.

When I try to open an Excel file by double clicking on it, it does not show up. When I click on the restore/ maximise 'box' icon, it appears. In other words, it does not come into view unless I click maximise. I am using Excel 2007.

I want to apply data validation to a column wherein I would prefer to have a drop-down of certain preferred values. But I would also like to leave the option for the user to enter any other value (thus not force the user to select something from the drop-down list).
