I'm preparing a parallel edition of two texts, one table column for each
text.  The drop caps menu option is grayed-out when I'm in the table,
and the columns menu option is grayed-out when I'm in the footnotes!
How can I get this formatting to work?

I write many letters and save copies in a folder.
When I get an answer from a letter, I go to the document and create a large
text box right on top of the text in the letter and put the message
"Received Reply [Date]" in the text box in red letters.
