I have word 97 on a win. 98 system, and every other day i click my icon for word, and it just won't open, frezze's the whole system, is there a update? or do i need to upgrade to word 2000

I had Word '97 for the longest time but I just got Word XP last week.
The problem is I use alot of objects, tables, lines, text boxes, and I
notice that in Word XP the objects don't move when I'm editing the
text in the document. Say if I delete a paragraph above the objects,

I am trying to open a file with the extensin of  .wmf and I keep getting an
conversion file error with a whole bunch of weird characters..what is
causing this and how do I fix it ?  I am also getting the same error on the
same file with a .jpg extension on it ??  how do I fix that ? ...

I received an e-mail attachment which was created in Works.  It says it is
a "Works spreadsheet or chart", but doesn't give me a clue about what
version of Works it was created in.

I have a seven page work-in-process legal document
organized in to heading 1 and heading 2 topics. All
formatting is Arial. I modified Normal and heading 1

In the IE browser, in the Outlook express mail, you can right-click a
hyperlink and get the choice to "Copy Shortcut."  You can then paste
that shortcut as an active hyperlink into any application, or paste it
into the IE address bar.

I have Word 2002 and I can't open documents by double
clicking mouse or by right click, selecting open.        
I can open them by opening Word from Start and clicking

This seems to be such a simple question that I'm surprised I can't find the
answer online anywhere.  Many apologies if it *is* out there somewhere.
If I open a new blank document and then insert a jpg image (say into the top
left-hand corner) why can't I then move the image around ...

I use Word 2003. Today, for no apparent reason, when I maximize the window
there is a gap between the top of it and the viewable screen area of about a
