In some documents, when I change the format of one line of text (e.g., underline) Word applies that format to the entire document. Hitting cntl-Z clears it but in a large document it is very time-consuming and anoying. Any suggestions?

I have just updated to Word 2000 SR-1. When opening documents, each one opens in a new Word application, rather than just in a new window, is it possible to make new documents open as a window?
