I'm using Microsoft Word 2000 and have inserted a picture as a background
rather than a color

I normally don't have any trouble using Bullets/numbering, but
suddenly I find that if I want to change the level of one item, when I
use the promote/demote buttons ALL the paragraphs in my document
either become bulleted or the bullets are removed or changed.

I had downloaded Microsoft Word just to try it out but it changed all my
documents into the Microsoft Word and now because it has done that, I cannot

(Japanese).  I use IME of course, but my keyboard is a US layout, so I
employ the ALT+~ to get between direct input and romaji conversion.
However, since I got this new setup, IME seems to insist on using a
