After downloading Office 2007 trial, how do I open & get started.

I can copy some text with words separated by tabs into a table cell and all
is well: with two rows of this everything aligns as expects.
But how can I just add the tab when I am typing in a table cell?

I have a template for my company that I must use and I have it downloaded in
word however when I reach line 12ish it automatically jumps the rest of my
