When I open a file in Word, and then wish to open another, it keeps taking me back to the beginning of the list of files, when I actually want to go back to the place I was at.

I have Word 2007 on my computer. When clicking on 'Word Options', the options appear but no check boxes appear to the left of the option, making it impossible to use Word options. Any idea as to either what's wrong or how to fix it would be much appreciated.
