Considering a purchase of Power Point Program for use in an educational presentation. Have Windows XP home edition program with no Office programs on it. Can Power Point be purchased as a stand alone program or must it interact with the office program?

I wanted to download an excel template from the Microsoft Download screen. If the instructions say for 97 or higher, my excel can not open the template. If the instructions say 2000 or higher, my excel can open it.
