How do you open a .wks document when you no longer have Works 2000 or any Microsoft office product?

I've inserted auto text "Page X of Y" in the footer.  It shows correctly on screen, and in print preview, but it prints "Page x of X".  That is, printing page 13 of 50 shows Page 13 of 13 in the footer in the hard copy.

Using Win ME, Word 2000.  When trying to open existing
Word document, Title bar starts flashing, system locks
up.  Only way to get out of problem is to restart
computer. Ned some ideas on troubleshooting.

Suddenly a document in which I've been working for

When typing a document, Word 2002 hangs for about 30
seconds after 5 or 6 keystrokes.  After unfreezing, only 1
or 2 keystrokes are input and then it hangs for another 30
seconds or so.  Does anybody have any insight on this
