What causes a file name to be changed automatically to the first two letters
of the name of file changed to "~$". Example: ~$hn Doe. When I try to open
the file under that name, I'm directed to a file conversion box.

I have ticked the Option to view the Startup Task Pane, but it does not
dislplay when Word is started.  It shows momentarily (with nothing in it),
but is immediately removed.  Is there anything else I have to do in order to
make it stick?

The right mouse, print works in the Explore Menu.  I do not have to first
