all email attactments open in Word Pad (messageis gooblygook) instead of Word

I am using 2007 Office Suite.  When I send email from my Word (.doc) to
earlier versons of Word like 2003, they cannot open and get a 'corrupted'
message.  
Does anyone else have this problem?  Is there a fix?

I consider myself as a skilled user of Word.  I use Word 2003. Today I faced

I have been using Office 2000 SR1 Pro. Recently when i clicked on a .doc
file, Word initially opens but then an error message appears stating that
