It takes forever to open a word, excel, etc. document and the programs

When I select an item in word, a single sentence for example, and apply
formatting to it (such as Bold), the change affects the entire word document
rather than merely the selected text.  When I click "Undo" this fixes the
problem, but it means I constantly have to select Undo.

I've document with 8 sections.  Here's an example of the two sections.

   1.1 First mail
   1.2 Second mail

I need to create a custom page number for my appendixes that will appear in
my table of contents as well.  I need to have the appendix letter appear
before the page number.  I have been working on this problem for a couple

groups of pages  (ie page 45-87) copy and paste them into other document.  I
don't want to use the mouse to move and selects 30 to 50 pages at a time.

When I try to open a document Word says "...should be
opened as read-only unless changes to it need to be

When teaching, it would be VERY useful to print the formatting marks in a
document to show students where they make mistakes. I have discussed this
issue with instructors at our university and other universities in the area
and we ALL agree that this is needed.

Using the calendar wiazrd in office 2002: it shows the gridlines on the
screen, but when I print the calendar it does not print the gridlines. Is
there a way to print them?
