In MS Word 2003, when I crop various images in a file (to remove the dark margins that resulted when I scanned pages of books), the size of the file increases, though logically it should decrease. Any MS image file experts out there who could explain this bizarre behavior?

I have Office 2003pro loaded, so why doesn't Word at least give me an option for MS Photo Manager or an "Open with" selection tool? How do I change it to any other program? The Web help for this is a joke. TOOLS/OPTIONS/EDIT/Picture Editor has only the outdated Word Picture ...

Well, the major idea is in the subject. I want to change all of the pictures in an MS word document to 1 size while keeping the ratio locked. Anything, anything anything will help because I'm pasting a large number of pictures into documents and I hate resizing one by one.
