Why is it sometimes when you want to edit a picture or clip art you CAN use the edit points function to seperate parts out and change colors and sometimes this function is grayed out?

Suddenly - when i insert pictures into my word documents they behave erratically. Usually, the picture dores not display. if i click on the place where it should be i get the outline, if i adjust the outline size, then i get the picture. But it will soon disapper.

When I email a newsletter created in Word to my client, all they see is a small box with a red X in it where the graphic should be. Why? But when I email it to my other email address, the graphics show up fine.
