How do I disable automatic indentation and para numbering?
Too often it misunderstands my intentions and I cannot overrule it inless I
cut the whole thing and paste into Notepad, format is in Notepade to my
liking and then paste back to Word which does not seem the most intellegent

I'm working on my dissertation. The first chapter I wrote

have a very long footnote with several hard returns in it.  It starts at the
bottom of page one, then continues with part of it on page two, and the end
