would like a recommendation or ideas19 Nov 2005 13:07 GMT1
I've got a client who use word for book creation i.e. User books which
demand TOC, indexes, chapter creation leading to putting the whole book
together.  Master/Sub documents do not work for them in  consolidating all
elements of the book.  They've had someone create a few macros ...

Can I copy formatting from a template to many docs?18 Nov 2005 15:52 GMT1
Or maybe someone can suggest an alternative solution. Here's my situation:
I have several large documents with many sections each. They are set up
correctly using styles for most formatting (headings, normal text, etc.). I
want to reformat all of them to use the styles and layout ...
shouldn't Grammar Checking in Word 2003 catch this word transposition16 Nov 2005 21:56 GMT1
I was hoping that Word 2003's Grammar Checking would catch this error:
You will a find hierarchical menu.
and propose correcting it to:
You will find a hierarchical menu.
Equal column heights in newspaper columns16 Nov 2005 01:20 GMT2
I am working with a two-column, newspaper-style document in Word
2003, and I would like to force the column heights to be equal.  I've
tried toggling the "Windows/Orphan control" option, which helps a little
bit, but the column heights are never really equal.  I'd appreciate ...

Can anyone tell me how to place a dotted line between the subject and
the page number in the table of contents?
Paragraph Styles14 Nov 2005 12:54 GMT7
I've been doing a lot of reformatting recently.  I've found in a few
documents that when I try to apply a style, e.g heading 1, the style
being applied is e.g heading1,level1,caps,bold.  It's as though that
'formatting' has attached itself to my style.  The only way I've found
Formatting In Use (Style and Formatting Task Pane) Slow + Incorrect?08 Nov 2005 22:37 GMT6
I'm tidying up a document of about 130 pages - no graphics but lots of text
and tables.
I have rationalised most of the document replacing the manual formats with
styles, using CTRL+Q and CTRL+Space, etc.
Style Naming Convensions08 Nov 2005 09:38 GMT12
I am setting up a few templates for users who have long documents which have
been re-used for many years (e.g. for 2003 document the 2002 one was used
and overwritten) and have text pasted in from other sources and in terms of
formatting/styles are a complete mess.
Any way to write-protect certain characters?08 Nov 2005 04:29 GMT4
I have a long document separated by sections.  Others edit the document,
and sometimes they delete the section breaks then save the document.  The
messes up all my headers and footers, which depend upon the section marks.
I am hoping there is a way to write-protect the ...
Equivalent command for repaginate now?07 Nov 2005 15:11 GMT2
Me again! I seem to recall when back when PCs were slow, a command (under
tools?) called repaginate now. The command forced Word to recalcuate page
breaks/numbering, well, now.
I'm waiting upwards of 30 seconds to see the changes I'm making to column
Word 2003 - shift/return problem07 Nov 2005 13:28 GMT4
Hi - I'm trying to format a long document for a directory. It was given
to me with 'shift/return's at the end of each line/paragraph instead of
just 'return's. As a result each time I try to, for instance, justify a
section, it effects the entire text and it's driving me insane. If

Character spacing on screen05 Nov 2005 02:08 GMT1
We have recently upgraded to 2003 and are experiencing a very strange
problem.   A few documents, after being sent for printing, have changed
on screen.   The typeface looks irregular - squashed together in places
and spaced out in others (like a very old typewriter).   The page ...
Document Map/TOC05 Nov 2005 00:09 GMT1
I have a 500 page document with lots of headings and styles. I am used
to dealing with documents like this but I have a problem that I cannot
figure out.  The document map is drawing from most if not all of the
styles and headings.  I cannot collapse it down. I didn't think this
