When I merge data from an Excel sheet, only the first 259 characters are retrieved in any particular field. Is this a known problem - any fixes (other than splitting the data between 2 fields)?

Guys, I have an Access database and one field is Date sent. It's set up in the format dd/mm/yyyy. When I mail merge to Word the date is changed back to mm/dd/yyyy when my client prefers it the other way. How can I set it so Word keeps it in the format of dd/mm/yyyy?
