Case: an excel file is currently in use as data source (mail merge with a Word 2003 document). Question: is it normal that the excel file can not be opened in excel (i.e. for altering data) at the same time by the same or another user?

When printing merged docs in word 2003 and it contains any graphics it only merges at 500 records an hour. What can I do to speed the process? More memory? Faster processer? Any sugguestions? Thanks

I'm using Word XP to do a mail merge of a letter on my company letterhead. I'm using Contacts in Outlook as my data source. When I merge to e-mail, I lose my letterhead. . .the only thing that comes through is the text. Any ideas?
