We have just converted from WordPerfect to Word and I am trying to creat a mail merge where I can pause to type information I need to and then continue on with the mail merge. I know Wordperct had this feature but I cannot find it in word. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

In Word 2003, I am trying to convert a letter into a document that I can use for a mail merge. On the toolbar, the "insert Word field" button is active. However, the button to its left, the "insert merge fields" button is greyed-out or inactive.

when setting up a merge, I have selected that all blank lines should not be printed, but they are. I have uninstalled and reinstalled office several times to no avail. I have also reset up the merge several times each time the same fault occurs. can anyone help? Word 2000.
