Maybe I'm from the old school, but we were taught when
numbering a list, if there are 10 or more items, the #10
should be moved to the left one space (or all the others
moved to the right one space) so all the periods line up.

I am writing a thesis on Word 97.  It is a simple word
processing document with footnotes, but not tables or
insertions.

can have tables and/or figures. In the chapters I include the chapter
number in the captions of the figures and tables, but in the appendices

first three pages are unnumbered, 4-11 are numbered i-viii and the rest
are numbered 1, 2, 3, ... etc. I want to print only the unnumbered pages
