In Word X or Word 98 in our office, we require auto-numbering for filing
purposes on our style headings to list documents and what they contain. ie
1. Letter to ..
2. X-ray Head

I know I can just place "L-" in front of a page number, but I need the
table of contents to reflect page "L-1", "L-2", "L-3", etc...
Note each section is different "M-1", "K-1", "H-1",  etc...
How can I do this?

Using ALT F9 will switch the display between field name
and actual number, but under no circumstances would the
number itself print.  Also, when working in page layout
view, the page number is displayed but switching to print

Can anyone tell me how to turn off Captions.  Even when
creating a brand new document, every graphic I paste into
it is labelled "Exhibit 1, Exhibit 2, etc."

that are forms which merge. Sometimes the merged
documents are one page, sometimes two. When they are one
page, I do not want a page number (Page 1) to appear.

everytime I want to use the same style number like
(Heading 2) or soemthing, it continues from the last time
used.  So mu documents look like this:
