When using Word 2003 for my book's manuscript, I set the chapter number manually by using Format|Bullets and Numbering|Customize|Start At.

I have a finished Word document which I would like to add
consequential sub division numbering to e.g.

This is getting me crazy, and could be very simple, happen that I have a
document with several pages and I set Page numbers automatically and looks
like is done and fine, I save it, close it and when I open it again I have a
different numbering like this

When I insert List Num field in a Word 2002 document, and
follow it with a non-breaking-space, the text still
breaks from the number if it's at the end of the line.
Other Word fields seem to work ok with the non-breaking

I want to fix the following heading numbering:

I have a document that a user views and rather than
seeing the Auto Numbering in the section like 4.1, 4.2
etc... he gets boxes instead of numbers.
