I have a large document that I wish to renumber and have tried creating my own style, as the parent document numbers are a mix of ordinal numbers, (1) type, (a) and (i). I cannot get the paragraph numbers to get past 4. and the sub-paragraphs past (1) and (a).

I've written code to create stable numbering using methods I've learned on newsgroups and the MVP site. The code create styles and ties them to programatically created list templates and uses dummy styles to renumber. This has worked great for a few years.

OK, I've been struggling with this for a couple of days now with zero success. I have a document in Word 2003 with SP1 applied. The list numbering--writing docs for software, naturally I'm creating lots of procedures--is wonky in the extreme.
