I'm trying to figure out how to do something that I can easily do in
Adobe Framemaker. Basically, I want to have table/figure numbering
that has both the chapter (level 1) number and a standalone table/
figure number. For example:

I have a word document that has a few section breaks in it due columns for
formatting purposes.  When i attempt to number the pages...I get 1-4 (page 4
has my columns), NO page 5 and then the numbers start from 1 again on page 6.

I having difficulty with my dissertation.  My paper is 133 pages long and I
need to use i,ii, iii for the first 9 pages of my paper and then start at

We have recently upgraded to Office 2007.
I ihave a number of documents that use outline number style headings.

We are using a format in which caption numbers begin with the current heading
number, as in 3.4.1-1, 3.4.1-2, etc. If we then have appendixes A, B, and C,
using Heading 5 style, can we modify the figure captions to pick up the
letter from heading 5, in the same document?

I need each section of a manual to be a separate document. So I reset the
number of the Heading 1 at the start of each document, and the lower-level
headings pick it up correctly, except when I reopen the file, it has reset
back to 1.  How do I reset the number so that it lasts? ...

I am telling my page numbers to include the Heading 2 chapter number.  The
page numbers look fine (1.1-1, 1.1-2, etc.) but the Heading 1 level does not
show up correctly in the Table of Contents.  If Section 2.0 is on Page 2.1-1,
