I've been writing a thesis using MS Word of Office XP.
The thesis has a large number of pages and a huge number
of very long footnotes.
I've been plagued by two problems:

I have set up several HR-type forms that users can simply

I followed the online help instructions for creating checkboxes in a
form in Word 2002.  The result, however, is shaded fields in checkbox
shape which cannot be filled in; the cursor cannot be made to stay

I am using Office XP for Students and Teachers. The resume
templates in Word are terrible. The lines and bullets
slant downward and so does the text, In order words, the
