When I open word I do not receive a blank page. It's says Document 1 but there is something written on it which I typed long ago. And if I hit new page it is duplicated. All I want is a normal blank page. Please help me if you

Can some one tell me (or is is possible) to have the ruler display correctly so that you can look at your page and know exactly where 3 inches is located or 5 inches is located. My page setup is 8 1/2 X 11. However the ruler is only showing 9 inches on the ruler.
