About 2 years ago, I fought tooth and nail with word 2000 to do the following simple thing in normal (~15page) documents: Position a figure with an autonumbered caption so it doesn't jump and/or drag paragraphs to other pages.

Excel spread-sheet embedded in a Word document does not span over multiple pages. You can use a table to do this but features in a spread-sheet are then not available (such as summations, calcs).
