Is it possible to take an already existing list that goes scross from top to

I type am em-dash using the keyboard. Now, when I go to the Insert Menu,
Symbols is not there. I restarted the computer and Symbols is still not on
the Insert Menu. What can i do?

I want to get rid of something from the word window, all it looks like a
capital L on the right hand top and bottom corners and turn L the other way
